A solid home starts long before the first wall goes up. The foundation is where every decision you make either pays off or comes back to bite you. Get it wrong here, and you're dealing with problems down the road that are expensive and frustrating to fix. Get it right, and everything that follows just works.

Here's what we were working with on this one - a full block wall foundation set on a clean gravel base, properly vented and waterproofed before framing materials ever touch the site. You can see the lumber staged and wrapped on the right, ready to go. That kind of sequencing matters. It keeps the job moving and keeps materials protected.

The gravel spread beneath the block walls isn't just filler. It handles drainage and load distribution, two things that quietly protect a home for decades. The foam board insulation applied to the block walls is another detail that most people don't think about until their energy bills show up. We think about it on the front end so our clients don't have to think about it later.

What we're building toward here is a custom home that performs as well as it looks. The framing phase is right around the corner, and the groundwork is set up to support it cleanly. No shortcuts, no guesswork - just a foundation built the way it should be from the start.

This is the kind of work that defines a custom home construction build. It's not glamorous, but it's everything. When you hire a crew that sweats the prep phase like this, the rest of the build reflects it.
